Health Benefits of Mangos

Hi everyone!
I thought I would share with you about one of my favourite fruits; the mango.  Mangos are absolutely delicious - they give the taste buds a real buzz, but also their texture is unusual and a real experience.  In addition to this, they are very rich in minerals, antioxidants, digestive enzymes and have great cleansing properties.
Apparently, across the world, mangos are the most popular fruit. In some cultures, they are known as “The King of the Fruits,” because they are so nutritionally rich with powerful health promoting qualities.  Mangos are one of the richest sources of vitamin A, vitamin C and minerals such as potassium, calcium & phosphorus.
I have come up with this clever trick to peel a mango:

In addition to all this, I have devised a list of important facts about mangos:
  • Mango fruit is rich in healthy dietary fibre, & abundant in antioxidant compounds, clearing away free radicals which threaten cell damage.
  • It is fortified with Vitamin-A and flavonoids like beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin.  These compounds together are known to have antioxidant properties and are needed for healthy vision. Vitamin A is also required for maintaining healthy skin and mucus membranes.
  • Recent studies have shown that mangos can help to protect us from breast, prostrate & colon cancer.
  • Mango is high in potassium; an important component of cell and body fluids which helps to control heart rate and also our blood pressure.
  • It contains copper – which is required for the production of our red blood cells.
  • Mango is a great source of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps the body develop resistance to infections, builds our immune systems & fights off harmful free radicals.
  • Mangos are also rich in Vitamin B6 which helps the body make neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that carry signals from one nerve cell to another. It is needed for normal brain development and function, and helps our bodies to make the hormones serotonin and norepinephrine, which influence mood, and melatonin, which helps regulate our body clocks.
Check out my very own mango dessert recipe to try and include mangos more and more into your diet:-

Ingredients:
1 mango, 200g or 1 cup of 0% fat free Greek natural yoghurt, 2 tablespoons of sweetener (splenda or stevia) or you can use dark muscovado sugar. Chia seeds and blueberries to decorate/garnish.
In Portuguese:
Plus, the mango is a fabulous internal cleanser, apart from the obvious benefits of sweeping the body clean, our skin hair and nails benefit massively too from the Vitamin E.  The skin of the mango is precious, don’t throw it! If you don’t want it in your smoothie or juice use it as a face mask, just lay on your skin and relax a while!  It is supposed to be healing for those with eczema, and helpful for those with acne.
So don't ever forget to get mangoed up!!
