English Channel Fishing Trip Vlog Plus Fish Pie Recipe

Hi Everyone!

I just felt the urge to tell you all about a recent holiday I had - we went to Brighton to stay with my parents, and the highlight of our time was a fantastic fishing trip with my husband and dad.

Mmmmm...look at the fish pie we made as a result of the fish we caught on our expedition:-

My dad has a fishing boat, called the Golden Flyer, which is docked at Newhaven Marina and my husband just loves to fish - he almost lives to fish, so whenever we can, we try and arrange a fishing trip with my dad.

My dad is a very accomplished fisherman - he has been fishing with his dad since he was five, and he appeared in the Sea Angler Magazine earlier this year - having caught a 22.5lb cod.
This is the cod:-

And this is the page from the Sea Angler Magazine:-

So, anyway, I made a vlog of our latest fishing expedition; we caught a variety of fish; sole, dab, whiting, plaice and pouting, and I filmed all of it!  With our catch, my mum made a delicious fish pie.  The fish pie recipe is at the end of the video:-

Ingredients:
500-750g of fish fillets (any fish), semi-skimmed milk, salt, pepper, basil, 1kg white potatoes or maris piper, sweetcorn, frozen peas, 1 teaspoon mustard, chives, spring onions, unsalted butter and carrots to accompany the dish.

Method to the Madness:
1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees centigrade.
2. Add semi-skimmed milk to a sauce pan on a very gentle heat.  Season with salt, pepper and basil.  Add the fish fillets.  Heat gently for 10-15 minutes.
3. Place the potatoes in a saucepan and pour over enough water to cover them. Bring them to the boil and simmer until tender (15-20 mins).
4. Drain thoroughly and mash with some of the fishy milk from the poached fish fillets.
5. Extract the fish skins and any bones from the fish fillets, place in a pirex dish.
6. Add the sweetcorn, frozen peas, 1 teaspoon of mustard, chives and spring onions to the dish.
7. Add the mash.
8. Don't forget to use the fishy milk for extra moisture in the pie.
9. Mix all the ingredients evenly together.
10. Taste to check any need to extra seasoning.
11. Using the base of a spoon, spread the top of the pie ensuring it is flat and presentable.
12. Add knobs of butter to the top of the pie for a crispy skin.
13. Place in the oven and leave for around one hour, until golden brown.
14. Serve with carrots.
Alternatively, cover and freeze the pie for another day.

During the same mini-holiday to Brighton, we also caught plenty of place.  Here is my vlog on plaice fishing plus simple recipe:
